How many times did I experience to fail because of failure? How many times did I cry or laugh at myself for such blunder that I, myself, have committed? How many opportunities did I miss because of such an erroneous act?

Calculus quiz, Physics problems, major/minor exams, I often lost big points in everything because of either I missed a step, overlooked the sign, or was mental blocked. The effort I exerted reviewing before and after I went to sleep was ultimately wasted.

Come on, Marese, you know the right answer. You always doubt your answer that is why you always change it. You know what? You are only making it worse. Why? because your first answer is always correct! Remember your Physics quiz? How many points did you lose because you change your right answer into a wrong one?

Remember, always be careful. Think twice before doing something. Failure comes right after carelessness.

May gamot sa kabobohan pero wala sa katangahan. awts.

In our NSTP-LTS(National Service Training Program-Literary Training Service), we are asked to write a letter in 3-5 sentences addressed to ourselves reflecting on our strengths and weaknesses as an individual. Here's my letter for myself:

Dear Marvic Therese(myself),

Even from the start, there are lot of things that you can do. You are gifted with knowledge and wisdom. Your strong personality and confidence can bring you to the top. However, I have noticed that you lack motivation to do your best. To overcome that weakness, always remember that God gave you a gift which others do not have, and you must use it to show that you are thankful for it.

Truly yours,
Marvic Therese(myself)

Come on, write one for your self too!ö

On John Q
(A movie review)

The movie, John Q, is a about a father who desperately works in a factory and makes ends meet but always seem to fall lack of cash. Despite of that situation, he has taken good care of his wife and son. One day in little softball league, his son, Mikey, collapses and has found out that the child is suffering from enlargement of the heart. Mikey needs a heart transplant, his son will die. But he needs a quarter of a million dollars to have his son operated. For the initial payment, he needs to raise $35,000 to put his son’s name on the donors’ list. Having a very small salary and after knowing that his son is not covered by their company insurance, he has done everything just to raise the money. He has sold their possessions and received donations from the church. However, he has received a bad news from his wife that she has just talked to the heart specialist, Dr. Turner. Dr. Turner has said that the hospital management decided to release Mikey and send him home because of the poor financial status of the Archibalds.
After his desperate wife calls with the bad news and tells him to “DO SOMETHING”, John is forced to do something unlawful just to save his son’s life. He has taken over the emergency room of the hospital and took several people there as his hostages.
However, as the people, hostages, Lt. Frank, and of course, the hospital director, Rebecca Payne, witness the crazy things John is willing to do and how father he can be, these people has felt sympathy. Rebecca was really moved with John’s actions and words to his son and decided that she will be setting Mikey’s heart transplant free of charge.
As I support and agree to the point of the story that there is an unjust” law regarding the medical and healthcare industry that will cause a person to die because of lack of money or insurance and that you are not totally ensured with your medical insurance, that message is perfectly delivered with the flare of John Q. In my opinion, this situation is an example where it is reasonable to blame the messenger for the bad feelings you may have.
I also agree with what Jimmy Pulumbo’s, John’s friend, statement that “…what is important is VALUES, but here, what is important is VALUE.” People nowadays, in most cases neglect and disregard the values in their action. Today, it is a nevermind the values as long as you have the value to achieve something. And this wrong principle leads one to wrong ethics.
I somehow disagree with Rebecca Payne’s statement, “It costs money to provide healthcare.” Yes, you need to pay for medications, but I think that it is unethical to watch someone die and do nothing because he can not pay for a service. The movie makes me realized that life is important than money.

The principal end of John Q. Archibald (the agent) is to save his son from death by taking over the hospital. However, the second end affected more his family and other people. He has been imprisoned as a result of the principal end. But looking on the bright side, he has awakened many people to bring back the values and justice to healthcare of every people, and to destroy the wrong principle of hospitals regarding their system on prioritizing patients.

The film calls out for people to lend a hand and cross each other's arms whenever they feel abused by the system.
However, unintentionally the message may bring more harm than good. John Q is a good example of a film that shows how obstacles like fear and force affect the human acts.
